John FINLAYSON (Parnell 75-78) from Northland and Derek SMITH (Averill 75-78), who travelled with his wife for the reunion from Monaco where he is a director of an international tax planning company.
The first of the year 2000 year group reunions began with a good number of the 1975 year group joining with other Old Collegians at the Annual Cocktail Party on Friday 10 March. The following day participants attended a Chapel Service addressed by Rev Murray Bean (College Assistant Chaplain) and were then hosted by the Headmaster, John Taylor, at lunch. The Headmaster welcomed the group back to King's and remarked on their success in their final year in 1979. Following lunch, most of the group took the opportunity to tour the school accompanied by sixth form students. Several commented that the changes in buildings since their day was impressive. More than 90 Old Collegians and their partners re-assembled at 6.30pm for drinks and dinner. Despite frequent encouragement to begin their meal, the group was content to talk (at some volume!) for considerably more than the allocated hour. At the conclusion of the meal, many stood to speak of their reminiscences and memories of their time at school. The MC for the evening, Peter CHALMERS (School 75-79), ensured that the entertainment was continuous and enjoyable.

Reunion in London

Jon STATON (St John's 58-61) is planning a function in London to mark the Old Collegian centenary and to welcome Headmaster John Taylor and his wife Sarah during their overseas trip to Canada and Great Britain. The function will be on Monday May 15 in The Soho Room at The Groucho Club, 42 - 43 Dean Street, London W1V 5AP at 7.30 for 8pm and invitations will be sent to Old Collegians who have addresses in the area. Anyone who is in London at that time or who knows of someone who is there should either contact Executive Officer David English (Ph: 09 276 0635 or Fx: 09 276 0683) or Jon by email jstaton@dircon.co.uk or phone +44 020 7637 5825 or fax +44 020 7436 9740

Valuing the support of Montana Wines

For the past two years, Montana Wines has provided readers of the King's Courier with a special wine offer in each issue. A portion of the proceeds from each case sold in these wine offers is invested by the KCOCA in a fund to provide bursary support to enable students to attend King's who would otherwise not be able to attend. The wine offers are just one of the several ways in which Montana has assisted the College and the KCOCA. For instance, it also supports the popular Degustation Royale wine tasting/education programme for students, and donates prizes for the annual King's College Sports Foundation Dinner and the Old Collegian Golf Day. Montana's support is greatly valued by the KCOCA and the College, and readers are encouraged to take advantage of the latest wine offer in this issue of the Courier.
