| 50 Years on reunion |

|
Old friends enjoyed catching up over 'bubbly' before Executive Officer David English extended his welcome on behalf of the Old Collegians Association. |

| A hard working committee of Mike HEWETT (Selwyn 50-53), Gus GARDNER (Peart 50-54), Barry STEWART (Marsden 50-54) and Bruce COMYNS (Selwyn 50-52) were well rewarded as the reunion of those who began at King's in 1950 was a most enjoyable affair. The day began with a luncheon, hosted by the King's College Foundation, at which Denver OLDE (School 50-54) reviewed the activity and role of the Foundation prior to an extensive tour of the College where all the latest building additions were surveyed.
Many then went home to rest up for the evening's activities which began with a Chapel service conducted by the School Chaplain, Warner Wilder, followed by drinks and dinner in the Old Collegians Pavilion.
Wellington Branch reunionOnce again, the mid-September Wellington Branch reunion so carefully organised by Peter CHAPMAN (Parnell 75) was well attended by many who have supported the branch over the years, as well as a very pleasing smattering of younger old collegians including Andrew ILES (Parnell 85-89), Sam HIGGINS (Parnell 85-89) and Julian MORRIN (Marsden 83-86).
The reunion, again held at the Wellington Club, began with drinks and a toast to the KCOCA in its centennial year followed by dinner after which Gillian Simpson, Deputy Head, reported on current happenings at the College.
Christchurch Branch ReunionA strong contingent of young old collegians, mostly students at Canterbury University, joined with more senior brethren in the congenial botanical setting of Mona Vale for the Christchurch branch reunion in September.
The group listened attentively to an update on College happenings from St John's Housemaster Schalk van Wyk, who gained the audience's approval early on with dubious news about new "research" highlighting the value of social drinking habits to a long and healthy career. Doubtless this value would not apply to guests enjoying the lunch such as young sporting hopefuls Hamish STOREY (St John's 93-97) and Mike BARTLETT (Peart 92-96), members of the Canterbury Rugby Academy (a development squad), or James MARSHALL (Selwyn 96-97), who is at the New Zealand Cricket Academy in Christchurch.
Dunedin Branch ReunionA gathering of 60 enjoyed a particularly relaxed and enjoyable luncheon which began with a welcome by KCOCA Past President Rob STOREY (St John's 59-63) who gave an update on association activities and future plans. The reunion included four professors, Harold MARSHALL (St John's 45-49), Richard SUTTON (Peart 52-56), Peter SKEGG (Marsden 58-62) and David SKEGG (Marsden 61-65) as well as many old collegians studying at Otago. Andrew CARRINGTON (School 92-96), Simon HIGGS (School 93-97) and Cam FRASER (St John's 92-96) were thanked for working to ensure a good turnout of old collegian students.
Schalk van Wyk, Housemaster of St John's, gave a full report from the College laced with a number of humorous anecdotes. The luncheon concluded with a vigorous rendition of the School Song. |
