Branch Dinners
Franklin hears of successesNearly 60 people gathered in Pukekohe on 15th August for the Annual Branch Dinner and farewell to John and Sarah Taylor. In the absence of Garth WILCOX (Averill 64-68), who was overseas, the evening was MC'd by Peter TAYLOR (Peart 57-60). The guests consisting of current, prospective and past parents, Old Collegians and College staff listened to Murray MACDONALD (School 54-59) give his KCOCA report before sitting down to their meal. In his speech John Taylor not only reported on the many successes of the College but also in his recollections provided an analysis of the state of NZ education. The evening concluded with a presentation to John and Sarah Taylor, the customary roll call and School Song.
Rotorua hosts Central Lakes functionThe Millennium Hotel in Rotorua was the venue for the Branch Dinner, which is held annually alternating between Rotorua and Taupo. MC Ken ILES (Parnell 55-59) was in tremendous form as he welcomed the guests, including a good number who had travelled from Taupo. Murray MACDONALD (School 54-59) gave his report from the KCOCA and particularly acknowledged the support that John and Sarah Taylor had given the Association. After dinner John Taylor responded to Ken Iles' toast to King's giving his customary report and reminiscing on his time at King's. Paul EAST (School 60-64) followed and in presenting John and Sarah with a gift from the Branch spoke warmly about the contribution they have made to King's.
Branch Debrief and SeminarFollowing last year's decision to reorganise the Branches a debrief on how the new organisation was working was held in August. Branch personnel from throughout the North Island gathered for an afternoon seminar where the focus was primarily on the role of the parent contacts and how they could assist the College by providing 'on the spot' help and guidance to prospective parents and students.
The afternoon finished with drinks and a dinner and many of the attendees went on to watch the secondary schools rugby final at Eden Park the following day.
