About KCOCA - Branch Contacts

The Old Collegians' Association, founded as the King's College Old Boys' Association in 1900, was so named in 1985 to acknowledge that both men and women were eligible for membership.

The Association celebrated its centenary during 2000. Each year the Association organises its Annual Reunion dinner and Old Collegian of the Year Award as well as Branch and year group reunions.

The Association is managed by an Executive who meet 5 times a year. The Executive is elected each year at the Annual General Meeting.

The Executive is:

Past President - Robin BECKETT (Marsden / Major 55-59) is a current parent with two sons at the College and earns a crust by publishing predominantly in the areas of architecture and design. He is a long term supporter of King's and has been the publisher for most of 30 years of the King's Courier as well as two King's Registers, O Floreat Semper, Acorns to Oaks and the Our Chapel booklet.
 
 
Committee - Terry GOULD (Major 69-72) graduated LLB (Hons) from Auckland in 1976 and practiced law for 3 years before entering the commercial world by buying into a printing business. In 1984 he founded the brand implementation company Lexicon Systems Ltd which grew to be the largest operation of its kind in New Zealand. He sold out of Lexicon in 2002 and now has interests in software development and commercial property in Auckland CBD. He is married to Jo with 3 sons, two of whom are current students of the College.
 
Committee - Mike HALLWRIGHT (Selwyn 72-76) studied for a BCom at Auckland University after leaving school and then travelled to the USA for 3 years on his skiing OE, studying hard at Aspen and Lake Tahoe. He has 3 children, Sophie 15, Lucy 13 and George 10. He established BDA Communications (Branding, Design and Advertising) 20 yrs ago. They create TV, Radio, Press and also do below the line collateral (ie: brochures, catalogues etc) and web design (database and implementation).

Board Representative - Harry WAALKENS (Selwyn 68-72) has two brothers (Chris 1970 - 1974) and Richard (1976 - 1980) who were also in Selwyn. Harry's twin sons, Carl and Richard, were also members of Selwyn House from 1999 to 2003. Harry is a current member of the Kings College Board of Governors, a position he has held for the last five years. He is a barrister practising in Auckland and is married to Kerry who he met at the Kings-Dio boarders' dancing classes in 1970!
 
Board Representative - Fred HELLABY (St John's 70-74) is also a current member of the Board of Governors and has been a KCOCA representative since last year. He is a Director of Wilson Hellaby and he and his wife Lindsey have one son at the College.
